Recent Projects.
Some of the recent projects I worked on as a director, and creative consultant. I have helped more than 50 brands tell their stories and achieve their goals. I have directed and produced more than 100 hours of broadcast television and online commercial content.
Melt is very dedicated to his work, it’s his passion so he pushes for perfection.
He’s fun to work with and frankly, you don’t see the time going. The set is bubbly but we get the job done. His presence is light (not heavy) and he makes us laugh all the time. He even goes the extra mile for the show to run smoothly.
I have learned a lot from him. He is really great at what he does.
In an industry notorious for chasing the next sensation, regardless of the truth, Melt was a breath of fresh air.
Not only was he professional into the smallest iota of detail, but trustworthy and honest to the point of being unreal. Not that I had to, but if so, I would have been comfortable sharing my deepest darkest secrets with him knowing that he will treat it with the required sensitivity. For me who never gets in front of a camera, he also had a way of making the camera disappear and just allowing me to chat to him and then somehow make all my musings make sense.
If ever I have to open myself up in front of a camera again, I will insist on having Melt direct the process again. No doubt!!
Melt van der Spuy produced two short videos for the TANKS coding project.
The one was aimed at educators, while the other focuses on potential industry sponsors. In both videos, he succeeded excellently in capturing the essence of what I wanted to say. I am using the videos extensively in reaching out to both educators and potential sponsors, and have no doubt that they have contributed greatly in providing great momentum to the project. During Mandela Month, we will, for example, be distributing over 150 sponsored Coding Kits to disadvantaged schools.

Melt was the director and creative consultant on Step by Step with Chalk Paint, a masterclass series of painting techniques using chalk paint, presented by Tuis|Home, South Africa’s best-selling home and garden magazine.
Working with Melt was an absolute pleasure. The episodes weren’t filmed in chronological order so Melt had to keep his wits about him – all whilst working with two inexperienced presenters. He was cool, calm and collected throughout, and kept tabs on the finest details. In the end, he delivered a fantastic product that the Tuis|Home team and Media24 are extremely proud of.
The outcome was definitely what I was hoping for. It was informal, but a true masterclass. There was a good balance between fun and learning throughout. Melt guided us gently through each episode with loads of patience – and was calm and focused at all times.
Without a doubt we’ll work with Melt again; the sooner the better.
